very unusual dispatch box made by A WEBSTER DOVER STREET MAYFAIR BY APPOINTMENT TO QUEEN ALEXANDRA. made in 1900-1910 this piece is very unique as it has the paper slot so documents can be placed in anonymously similarly to a drop safe. these boxes would be used to hold secret votes and so important documents could be placed when the box owner was absent. lovely quality box made by one of the finest mayfair luggage makers. lovely patina to the burgundy leather and no breaks or tears to the box. lovely interior also. the box has a BRAMAH lock but sadly no key.
a webster have been making dispatch boxes for governments and royalty since they started
