Best quality suitcase we have ever had. prize medal in general excellence made by h greaves by her majesties royal authority the quality can not be beaten. Very heavy piece beautifully aged suitcase in a lovely nut brown with the nicest patina we have ever seen. inside has a leather lining with the guilt embossed royal stamp. Massive oversized mirror-finished locks. totally original we just gave it a clean. circa 1860 its one of the oldest pieces of luggage we have ever had. extremely heavy due to the top quality materials used believed to have belonged to :
- Sir Isaac Campbell coffin the date, quality and initials verify this. as early suitcases like this were very rare and only high up individuals and aristocracy would own such pieces. one of if not the earliest example of the modern suitcase that is known to exist. a true museum piece. 1 of 1 .
- Suitcases of this style but not bespoke quality only became available from 1900 onwards. earliest example known to exist
- Coffin, sir Isaac Campbell (bap. 1801, d. 1872), army officer in the east India company, son of Admiral Francis holmes coffin.
