An extremely scarce, black leather ‘necessaire de voyage’ by Hermès, Paris designed to be mounted in the rear compartment of a formal motorcar. The slim case retains its original mounting brackets, features a hinged cover which provides space for cigarettes or small cigars, a match striker with match safe beneath, and a fall-front recess, with sprung looped handle, for coins or small items. A pull-out drawer with integral rests acts as the ashtray. To provide additional comfort, to the top is fitted a silver circular St. Christopher, Patron Saint of travellers.
French, circa 1930s.
Length: 11 inches (28 cm) long.
